Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's winter curbside food and yard waste collection will begin with pick-ups from December 1-5, 2025, in response to resident feedback. Public Works Director Marlene Feist highlighted the growing demand for services extending beyond November to facilitate yard clean-up during milder winter weather. The City encourages residents to utilize their green carts for food scraps and yard waste, especially with increased food waste expected during the holiday season. Residents can subscribe to the service through Spokane311. org or by calling the City.

The 90-gallon green carts can accommodate a range of yard waste, but plastic bags are not allowed, as they incur higher disposal fees. Residents can also dispose of food scraps and food-soiled paper in the carts to reduce waste. The Waste to Energy facility remains available year-round for clean green material disposal. The minimum charge for self-haul is $7. 62 for up to 200 pounds.
