Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will implement curbside food and yard waste collection during winter months, starting with pick-ups from December 1-5, 2025. Following community requests, the city is extending its waste management services to assist residents with yard clean-up during the winter. Public Works Director Marlene Feist emphasized that this initiative aims to encourage proper food disposal and reduce waste during holiday feasts. Residents are urged to make full use of their green carts and to dispose of food scraps and yard waste properly. Guidelines clarify acceptable materials, including food-soiled paper and various yard debris, while banning plastic bags, which incur additional disposal fees.

Residents can enroll in the service through Spokane311. org or by contacting the city. The Waste to Energy facility remains available for year-round recycling of clean green materials. The minimum charge for disposal at this facility is $7. 62 for up to 200 pounds.
