Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child

An early morning house fire in Northwest Spokane resulted in the death of an 11-year-old boy and displaced six residents. The Spokane Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after 12:14 a. m. , rescuing a disoriented adult female from the home. Firefighters discovered the fire originated in the basement bedroom, where the child was found deceased.

Investigators confirmed the fire was incendiary, caused by the child igniting combustible materials. The grandmother, who attempted to extinguish the fire, managed to escape and alert others in the home. Two dogs and a cat perished in the fire, highlighting the tragedy's impact on the family. The Red Cross is assisting three adults and three children displaced by the incident, emphasizing the need for community support. Spokane Fire Department urges awareness of fire safety, especially for children with a history of fire play.
