Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's curbside food and yard waste collection will expand into winter months, starting with the first pick-up scheduled for December 1-5, 2025. This decision responds to community requests for continued service after November, according to Public Works Director Marlene Feist. Residents are urged to utilize their green carts for food disposal, particularly during the holiday season, when food waste can increase significantly. They should also ensure their carts are filled correctly, avoiding the use of plastic bags to prevent extra fees. The city offers discounted disposal for up to three extra paper bags of leaves, which will be composted.

Residents can subscribe to this service online or by calling the city. The initiative aims to foster responsible waste management and environmental sustainability. By encouraging proper disposal practices, Spokane aims to reduce food waste and promote community engagement in composting efforts.
