Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane will conduct curbside food and yard waste collection during winter months, with the first pick-up set for December 1-5, 2025. This service was introduced in response to community requests for continued waste collection beyond November, as noted by Public Works Director Marlene Feist. Residents are encouraged to maximize their green carts for yard waste and food scraps, especially during the holiday season, to reduce waste. The green cart can accommodate a variety of materials, including leaves, food scraps, and food-soiled paper. Residents can dispose of up to three extra paper bags of leaves at a discounted rate, while plastic bags are subject to higher disposal fees.

The city aims to remind residents of the importance of food disposal in green carts to promote sustainability. Clean green materials can also be recycled year-round at the Waste to Energy facility. This winter service reflects the city's commitment to enhancing waste management and environmental responsibility in Spokane.
