Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child

Spokane, WALocal News

A house fire in Northwest Spokane early this morning resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy. Firefighters from the Spokane Fire Department, assisted by Spokane County Fire District 9, arrived quickly to rescue a disoriented adult female. They battled heavy smoke and flames to reach the basement bedroom, where the boy was found deceased. Investigators determined the fire was incendiary, caused by the child igniting combustible materials. The boy's grandmother had attempted to smother the fire but was forced to escape, alerting others in the home.

Fortunately, three other children and the child's mother evacuated safely. The grandmother received treatment for smoke inhalation but declined hospital transport. The Spokane Fire Department urges community members to recognize the importance of fire safety and provides resources for families dealing with fire-related issues.
