Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child

Spokane, WALocal News

Early Monday morning, a devastating house fire in Northwest Spokane claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy. Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene and managed to rescue a disoriented woman, later identified as the boy's grandmother. Despite their efforts, they found the child deceased in the basement, where the fire originated. Investigators determined the fire was incendiary, sparked by the child igniting combustible materials. The grandmother had attempted to smother the flames but was overwhelmed by smoke and heat.

Three other children and the boy's mother successfully evacuated the home. The incident underscores the critical need for fire safety awareness, particularly regarding children who may play with fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family, providing shelter and support for the six displaced individuals.
