Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child
A house fire in Northwest Spokane claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy early Monday morning. The Spokane Fire Department arrived at the scene and quickly rescued a disoriented adult female and her three children, who evacuated safely from the main floor. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke while attempting to reach the basement, where the boy was located. His grandmother attempted to extinguish the fire with clothing but was overwhelmed by smoke and flames. Investigators confirmed the fire was incendiary, caused by the boy igniting combustible materials.
The boy's death highlights the need for fire safety awareness, particularly for children. The Spokane Fire Department urges parents to educate children about fire risks and to refer those with a history of fire-setting to their prevention program. The Red Cross is assisting the family displaced by the fire.
