Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child

A house fire in Northwest Spokane claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy early Monday morning. The Spokane Fire Department arrived at the scene and quickly rescued a disoriented adult female and her three children, who evacuated safely from the main floor. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke while attempting to reach the basement, where the boy was located. His grandmother attempted to extinguish the fire with clothing but was overwhelmed by smoke and flames.
