Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

The City of Spokane will offer winter curbside food and yard waste collection starting December 1-5, 2025, based on resident feedback. Additional pick-up weeks are scheduled for January 5-9 and February 2-6, 2026, responding to community requests for extended services. Public Works Director Marlene Feist emphasized that the initiative allows for yard clean-up during milder winter weather and encourages proper food waste disposal. Residents should maximize their green carts with leaves and yard waste while avoiding plastic bags, which incur extra fees. The 90-gallon green carts accept a variety of organic materials, including food scraps and yard debris.

Spokane's Waste to Energy facility remains available year-round for clean green material recycling. This service aims to reduce food waste during the holiday season while promoting environmental responsibility. Residents can easily subscribe to the service online or by calling the city.
