New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at E Mission Ave and N Greene St following rising safety concerns. The Spokane Police Department identified this intersection as one of the busiest in the city, recording 18 crashes since 2023. A 30-day grace period starts November 24, during which violators will receive warnings before facing a $145 fine. Director of Transportation and Sustainability Jon Snyder emphasized that any injury or death on the road is unacceptable. "Safer driving means fewer collisions and safer streets for everyone," said Spokane Police Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe, highlighting the intersection's collision rates.

Additional cameras will also be deployed near Shadle Park High School and Shaw Middle School. This initiative aims to address the unacceptable increase in traffic collisions in the city. By implementing these measures, officials seek to enhance overall traffic safety in Spokane.
