New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will soon activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at the intersection of E Mission Ave and N Greene St, responding to increasing traffic safety concerns. The Spokane Police Department selected this site due to its high crash rate, reporting 18 incidents since 2023. A 30-day grace period for violators starts on November 24, during which they will receive warnings before facing a $145 fine. Transportation Director Jon Snyder highlighted the cameras as essential tools for reducing traffic collisions. Spokane Police Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe pointed out that previous installations of red light cameras have successfully lowered accidents, speeding, and red light violations at other intersections.

The initiative reflects Spokane's commitment to improving road safety amid a rise in traffic incidents. Additional traffic safety cameras will be deployed near Shadle Park High School, Shaw Middle School, and the intersection of N Division St and E Magnesium Rd. This broader effort aims to create safer streets for all residents.
