New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at E Mission Ave and N Greene St, targeting the intersection due to increased accident rates. The Spokane Police Department selected this site after recording 18 crashes since 2023. A 30-day grace period begins on November 24, during which violators will receive warnings instead of fines. After this period, running a red light will incur a $145 fine. Transportation Director Jon Snyder highlighted the city's growing traffic collision issue, stating that any injury or death is unacceptable.

Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe confirmed that previous installations of red light cameras have led to reductions in accidents and speeding. The city plans to deploy additional cameras near Shadle Park High School and Shaw Middle School to further enhance safety. These measures reflect Spokane's commitment to improving road safety and reducing traffic-related incidents.
