Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child
A house fire in Spokane early Monday morning resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy and two pets. Firefighters responded promptly to the scene and rescued the child's grandmother, who was disoriented from smoke inhalation. Investigators revealed that the boy ignited combustible materials in the basement bedroom, which quickly spread. The grandmother attempted to extinguish the flames but was overwhelmed and escaped to alert others in the home. Fortunately, three other children and the boy's mother evacuated safely.
The Spokane Fire Department's investigation confirmed the fire's incendiary nature. To prevent similar incidents, the department urges parents to enroll children with a history of fire play in their Youth Fire-Setting Prevention Program. This initiative aims to educate families and reduce the risk of future tragedies.
