Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will initiate curbside food and yard waste collection during winter months, with the first pick-up scheduled for December 1-5, 2025. Public Works Director Marlene Feist highlighted that residents have frequently requested extended services for yard clean-up after November, particularly in favorable weather. The city encourages residents to plan their holiday meals to minimize food waste and to utilize green carts for disposal. Acceptable yard waste includes leaves, branches, and various plant materials, while plastic bags are prohibited and incur additional disposal fees. Customers can dispose of up to three extra paper bags of leaves at a discounted rate.

The city aims to foster responsible waste management practices during the holiday season. Residents can start the service online or by contacting the city directly. Spokane's Waste to Energy facility remains open year-round for clean green materials.
