Fatal Early Morning House Fire in Northwest Spokane Claims Life of Child
A fire in a Spokane home claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy early today, prompting a swift response from local fire departments. Firefighters located the boy in the basement after rescuing a disoriented adult female, who was the child's grandmother. She attempted to extinguish the flames but was overpowered by smoke and heat. Fire investigators ruled the fire incendiary, initiated by the child playing with combustible materials. The boy's mother and three siblings escaped safely, while the grandmother received treatment for smoke inhalation.
The incident highlights the dangers of unsupervised fire play among children. The Red Cross is currently aiding six residents displaced by the tragedy. Spokane Fire Department urges awareness and intervention regarding youth fire-setting behaviors.
