Stuff Green Carts with Food and Yard Waste

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane's curbside food and yard waste collection will include winter pick-up starting Dec. 1-5, 2025, following community requests for extended service. Public Works Director Marlene Feist noted the initiative aims to assist residents with yard clean-up and remind them of the importance of proper food waste disposal. The winter pick-up will occur once a month, with additional dates in January and February. Residents are encouraged to utilize their green carts effectively, filling them with leaves, yard waste, and food scraps.

The City offers discounts for disposing of extra paper bags of leaves, while plastic bags lead to higher disposal fees. This effort aligns with Spokane's commitment to sustainability, especially during the holiday season when food waste typically increases. By promoting responsible waste disposal, the City aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Residents can start or modify their service through Spokane311. org or by contacting the City directly.
