New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will soon activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at the intersection of E Mission Ave and N Greene St, addressing serious traffic safety issues. This intersection has recorded 18 crashes since 2023, prompting the Spokane Police Department to take action. A 30-day grace period starts on November 24, allowing drivers to receive warnings before facing a $145 fine for red light violations. Transportation Director Jon Snyder highlighted the unacceptable rise in traffic collisions, asserting that safer driving is essential for community protection. Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe noted that previous installations of similar cameras have successfully reduced collisions and speeding.

In addition to the Mission and Greene cameras, more traffic safety cameras will be deployed near Shadle Park High School and Shaw Middle School. The initiative reflects Spokane's commitment to improving road safety and decreasing traffic-related injuries. Officials believe these measures will lead to safer streets for all residents.
