New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at the busy intersection of E Mission Ave and N Greene St, responding to rising safety concerns. The Spokane Police Department reported 18 crashes at this location since 2023, prompting the installation of these cameras. A 30-day grace period begins November 24, allowing violators to receive warnings before facing a $145 fine for red light infractions. Transportation Director Jon Snyder emphasized that these cameras serve as a critical tool for reducing collisions and enhancing road safety. Spokane Police Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe noted that previous installations of red light cameras have successfully reduced collisions and speeding.

The city aims to create safer streets for all residents. Additional cameras will be placed near Shadle Park High School, Shaw Middle School, and at N Division St and E Magnesium Rd. These measures reflect Spokane's commitment to traffic safety and injury prevention.
