New Automated Traffic Safety Cameras Installed at Intersection of Mission and Greene

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane will activate new photo red traffic safety cameras at the intersection of E Mission Ave and N Greene St due to increasing safety concerns. The Spokane Police Department identified this intersection as one of the busiest, with 18 crashes reported since 2023. A 30-day grace period will commence on November 24, during which violators will receive warnings before incurring a $145 fine for red light violations. Transportation Director Jon Snyder emphasized the need to address the unacceptable rise in traffic collisions, stating that every injury or death is one too many. Spokane Police Lieutenant Benjamin Maplethorpe highlighted that previous installations of red light cameras have successfully reduced collisions and speeding.

Additional traffic safety cameras will soon be deployed near Shadle Park High School, Shaw Middle School, and at the intersection of N Division St and E Magnesium Rd. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhance road safety and reduce traffic fatalities in Spokane. Enhanced enforcement through these cameras aims to create safer streets for all residents.
