Suspect Identified in Unsolved Murder of Margaret Anselmo
Spokane Police Department identified Brian J. Anderson as the suspect in the 1997 murder of Margaret Anselmo. Anselmo’s body was found with severe head trauma and indications of sexual assault in an alleyway near 700 E Pacific. Despite extensive investigation efforts, detectives could not initially link a suspect to the murder. The breakthrough came when forensic genetic genealogy was employed, leading to Anderson's identification through DNA evidence preserved from the crime scene.
Family members provided their DNA, revealing connections; one was Anderson's child, and another was his half-brother. If Anderson were alive, Spokane Police would seek charges of 1st Degree Murder and 1st Degree Rape against him. The case highlights advances in forensic technology aiding cold cases.
