Protecting Your Home From Title Theft

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane Police Department has issued a warning regarding the rising threat of home title theft, where criminals manipulate forged documents to claim ownership of properties. This fraudulent activity involves stealing identities to create and record false home titles, enabling the criminals to sell or borrow against the homes. Victims frequently remain oblivious to the theft until they face foreclosure or eviction. Spokane residents are advised to actively monitor their property titles by checking the county register for any unfamiliar filings or liens. While home title monitoring services exist, homeowners can perform these checks independently at no cost.

Immediate reporting of any suspicious activity is essential to mitigate potential losses. This type of fraud also extends to land parcels, highlighting the need for vigilance. Being proactive can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of such crimes.
