Protecting Your Home From Title Theft

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane Police alert the public to a growing threat of home title theft scams, where criminals forge documents to illegally seize property. By stealing personal identities, these offenders create false paperwork that allows them to transfer ownership without the homeowner's consent. Often, the legal owners remain oblivious until significant damage has occurred, losing both their homes and financial security. Residents can safeguard themselves by regularly checking property records at their county register for unauthorized filings or liens. Although there are monitoring services available, homeowners can perform these checks without cost.

It is essential to report any signs of fraud immediately to prevent further complications. This type of scam has also expanded to include land parcels, making vigilance even more critical. Being proactive can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to such crimes.
