Spokane Police Dept. Awarded Federal Mental Health and Wellness Grant
The Spokane Police Department has secured a $186,250 grant from the U. S. Department of Justice to bolster mental health and wellness services. This funding, provided through the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) program, is designed to assist law enforcement officers and their families. Specifically, the grant will support Struggle Well classes and training in nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, and mindfulness techniques.
Police Chief Kevin Hall stated that taking care of officers is essential for effective community service. Emergency services and mental health resources, including a dedicated helpline, are available for residents in crisis. The grant highlights the increasing attention to mental health issues within law enforcement. The Spokane Police Department aims to foster a healthier work environment, ultimately benefiting the community. Such initiatives are vital as they address the well-being of those who protect and serve.
