The Spokane Police Department has been awarded a $186,250 grant from the U. S. Department of Justice to enhance mental health and wellness services for its officers and their families. This funding, part of the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA), will support vital programs including peer support, training, and suicide prevention services. Specifically, the grant will facilitate Struggle Well classes and training focused on nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, mindfulness, and financial wellness.

Police Chief Kevin Hall stated that taking care of officers is essential for effective community service, underscoring the importance of officer wellness. This initiative addresses the increasing mental health challenges within law enforcement, aiming to improve resilience and job performance. The grant aligns with a national trend toward prioritizing mental health resources in policing.
