SPD investigation into child sex crimes leads to arrest in Florida suspect was former teacher at religious school in Spokane extradition to Washington State pending

Spokane, WALocal News

Tyrone L. Cliff, 38, was arrested in Florida on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material. The Spokane Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit initiated the investigation in August after receiving a CyberTip. Detectives confirmed Cliff's identity as a former Spokane resident and teacher at a religious school, leading to the issuance of multiple felony warrants. Upon learning that Cliff had moved to Florida, ICAC contacted local law enforcement, resulting in his arrest.

Cliff's case underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration, as the Spokane Police Department, Tampa Police Department, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement worked together to apprehend him quickly. He remains in Hillsborough County Jail, awaiting extradition to Washington State. This incident raises concerns about the safety of children in educational environments and the responsibilities of institutions to vet their staff. The investigation reflects a growing commitment to combat child exploitation across state lines.
