The Spokane Police Department received a $186,250 grant from the U. S. Department of Justice to improve mental health and wellness services. This funding comes from the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) program and will support essential services like peer support, stress reduction, and suicide prevention. Chief Kevin Hall highlighted that officers must prioritize their own wellness to effectively serve the community.

The grant will finance Struggle Well classes, along with training in nutrition, sleep, and mindfulness. Immediate mental health crises can be addressed by calling 988, while non-emergency police situations can be reported at 509. 456. 2233. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to officer support and community safety.
