The Spokane Police Department secured a $186,250 grant from the U. S. Department of Justice to bolster mental health and wellness services for officers and their families. Funded by the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA), this initiative will implement peer support and training programs focused on suicide prevention and stress management. The grant will specifically support Struggle Well classes, along with training on nutrition and mindfulness.

Chief Kevin Hall emphasized that the health of officers directly impacts their ability to serve the community effectively. In addition to this grant, the department provides resources for immediate assistance, including emergency services and mental health crisis lines. This funding reflects a broader trend of prioritizing mental health in law enforcement agencies nationwide. By investing in officer wellness, the Spokane Police Department aims to foster a healthier work environment. Such initiatives are vital for sustaining community trust and ensuring public safety.
