New Street Outreach Team Close 96 Encampments in First 10 Days

Spokane's new street outreach teams, launched in partnership with Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington, cleared 96 encampments in their first 12 days. While many sites did not have residents, the teams effectively connected individuals to behavioral health and housing services. Mayor Brown emphasized the importance of collaboration among service providers for sustainable change. Jonathan Mallahan, President of Catholic Charities Housing Ventures, expressed optimism about connecting vulnerable individuals with necessary resources. The outreach teams are strategically located in all four precincts of the Spokane Police Department.

To enhance outreach efforts, Spokane 311 will introduce a new feature for public reporting next week. This initiative allows residents to report individuals in need via phone or online, enabling near real-time dispatch of outreach teams. Such efforts aim to reduce homelessness and improve community well-being in Spokane.
