Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council is organizing a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support local initiatives Zilch and Bite2Go, both focused on alleviating food insecurity. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through small pantries, while Bite2Go provides weekend meals to students from K-12 in Spokane public schools. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the importance of addressing food insecurity, stating, “It’s about dignity and stability. ” He noted that 1 in 5 children in the region face hunger, affecting their ability to learn. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate by dropping off donations at City Hall during council meetings or while paying utility bills.

Non-perishable items can be placed in designated boxes on multiple floors of City Hall, and monetary donations can be made via a secure QR code. This initiative aims to foster student retention and long-term community health, ensuring no child goes hungry. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
