Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council and city employees will conduct a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support Zilch and Bite2Go, programs focused on alleviating food insecurity. Zilch collects non-perishable food items for local pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals for K-12 students in Spokane. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the initiative's importance in promoting dignity and stability within the community. With one in five children in the region facing hunger, the drive aims to address this pressing issue. Donations of non-perishable food can be dropped off at City Hall in designated boxes on multiple floors, while monetary contributions can be made through a secure QR code.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community members to participate, even if unable to attend council meetings. The food drive underscores the city’s commitment to combating food insecurity and supporting student retention. For more information, residents can visit the Bite2Go and Zilch programs on the 2nd Harvest website.
