Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon expressed gratitude for this initiative, stating, “It’s about dignity and stability,” and emphasized its role in enhancing student retention and community health. According to Bite2Go, 1 in 5 children in the region struggles with hunger, impacting their ability to learn. Residents can donate non-perishable food at City Hall, where designated drop boxes are available on multiple floors, or make monetary contributions through a secure QR code.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged participation during City Council meetings or while paying utility bills. The drive aims to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry, addressing a critical local issue. For more information on the programs and donation methods, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
