Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong training event for Dialogue Policing, which equips law enforcement with essential communication skills. Developed by the Columbus Police Department, this comprehensive 40-hour course focuses on improving interactions with community members during large gatherings. The training included a unique perspective from local activists and involved a Q&A session with media representatives. Officers learned de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology, while also participating in practical training scenarios to reinforce their skills. Certification requirements concluded the weeklong program, showcasing a commitment to professional development.

The training attracted multiple agencies from the Spokane area, highlighting the collaborative efforts to enhance community-police relations. This initiative aims to foster understanding and trust, essential for effective policing.
