Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training

Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department conducted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training event from October 6th. This comprehensive 40-hour program, developed by the Columbus Police Department, focuses on equipping law enforcement with essential communication skills for managing large gatherings. Participants included multiple local agencies, fostering collaboration with community members. The training featured a Q&A session with activists and media, providing insight into community perspectives. Officers practiced de-escalation techniques and learned about crowd psychology through various scenarios.

Certification requirements ensured that participants left with a solid understanding of the material. This initiative represents a proactive approach to enhancing public safety and community trust. Such engagements are crucial in today's climate of heightened scrutiny on law enforcement practices.
