Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council and City Employees are organizing a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to benefit the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which address local food insecurity. Zilch collects food for small pantries, while Bite2Go supplies nutritious weekend meals to children in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the initiative's significance, remarking that it fosters dignity and stability within the community. The region faces a concerning statistic, with one in five children experiencing hunger daily, which hampers their ability to focus in school. Residents can drop off non-perishable food and monetary donations at designated drop boxes in City Hall.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged participation during City Council meetings or while paying utility bills. Donations can also be made securely through a QR code linked to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest. This effort aims to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry, supporting long-term community health and student retention.
