Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training program designed to enhance communication skills among law enforcement during large gatherings. The training, developed by the Columbus Police Department, attracted officers from various agencies in the Spokane area. Participants were introduced to the Dialogue Policing model and attended a Q&A session with community activists and media members. The curriculum emphasized de-escalation techniques and incorporated insights from crowd psychology. To ensure comprehension, officers engaged in practical training scenarios before completing certification requirements.
This initiative aims to build trust and collaboration between law enforcement and community members. The program reflects a growing recognition of the importance of effective communication in policing. By equipping officers with these skills, the training seeks to improve public safety and community relations.
