Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council and city employees will conduct a food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support two crucial programs, Zilch and Bite2Go. Zilch collects food items for local pantries, while Bite2Go supplies nutritious weekend meals to K-12 students. Council Member Paul Dillon noted that this effort not only addresses food insecurity but also aids in student retention and long-term community health. According to Bite2Go, one in five children in the region experiences hunger, complicating their ability to focus in school. Donations of non-perishable food can be dropped off at City Hall, where designated boxes are located on multiple floors.
Financial contributions can be made using a QR code linked to the 2nd Harvest organization, ensuring donor confidentiality. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate by combining their utility payments with food donations. This initiative highlights the commitment to ensuring no child in the community goes hungry.
