Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
Spokane City Council is spearheading a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch focuses on immediate food distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go provides essential weekend food supplies to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon remarked on the initiative's importance in fostering dignity and stability for families facing food insecurity. Bite2Go reports that one in five children in the region faces hunger daily, which hampers their educational focus. Donations of non-perishable food items and monetary contributions can be made at designated drop boxes throughout City Hall.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to visit City Hall, even if just to drop off food items. This community-driven effort aims to enhance student retention and long-term community health. Supporting these programs is vital to ensuring that no child in Spokane goes hungry.
