Flags Lowered for Eastern State Hospital Security Guard Colleen Bass
Mayor Lisa Brown ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Eastern State Hospital Security Guard Colleen Bass, who was killed in the line of duty on September 27. This action follows Governor Bob Ferguson’s directive for state and U. S. flags at state agency facilities to also be lowered. Mayor Brown stated, “Our community is heartbroken by Colleen's loss,” extending sympathies to Bass's family, friends, and colleagues.
The flags will remain lowered until the close of business, demonstrating the city’s respect for those serving in protective roles. Bass’s death has profoundly impacted the Spokane community, highlighting the risks faced by security personnel. This commemorative action underscores the city’s commitment to honoring public service and sacrifice. Local officials encourage residents to reflect on the contributions of security staff in maintaining community safety. The city’s response embodies a broader recognition of the sacrifices made by those in the line of duty.
