Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department co-hosted a weeklong training event for Dialogue Policing starting October 6th. The 40-hour program, developed by the Columbus Police Department, focuses on equipping law enforcement with essential communication skills for managing large gatherings. Attending officers explored the Dialogue Policing model and participated in discussions with local activists and media representatives. The course also covered de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology, essential for maintaining public safety. Officers engaged in training scenarios to practice their skills before completing certification requirements at the week's end.

This initiative reflects a broader goal of enhancing community relations and trust in Spokane. Multiple agencies from the Spokane area participated, indicating regional support for improved policing practices. By prioritizing communication and understanding, the training aims to foster collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
