Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs, which combat food insecurity. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend supplies to students in grades K-12. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the effort's importance in fostering dignity and stability for families facing hunger. In the Spokane area, 1 in 5 children confront daily hunger, which hinders their academic performance. Residents can drop off non-perishable foods and monetary donations at designated City Hall locations.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community participation, stating that attending a City Council meeting offers a perfect opportunity to donate. The food drive reflects a strong local commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting student retention. For more information, visit the 2nd Harvest website.
