Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15, aiming to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution to small food pantries, while Bite2Go ensures K-12 students receive nutritious meals over the weekend. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted that one in five children in the region faces food insecurity, affecting their ability to learn and focus in school. Donations of non-perishable food items can be made at designated drop boxes in City Hall, and monetary contributions can be made via a QR code linked to Bite2Go. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community participation, noting that even utility bill payments can be an opportunity to donate.

The food drive addresses significant local issues of hunger and student retention, promoting long-term community health. Bite2Go's mission aligns with broader efforts to ensure no child in Spokane goes hungry. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
