Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and city employees will conduct a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food items for immediate distribution, while Bite2Go provides weekend food supplies to students in grades K-12, addressing local food insecurity. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating it fosters dignity and stability for families in need. Alarmingly, 1 in 5 children in the region face hunger, hindering their focus and learning in school. Monetary donations can be made via a secure QR code, ensuring donor information remains confidential.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community engagement, suggesting residents drop off food items while attending City Hall for other business. The drive will accept non-perishable foods and cash donations at designated drop boxes throughout City Hall. For more information on the programs, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
