Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council and City Employees are hosting a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support local food insecurity initiatives through Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for distribution to small pantries, while Bite2Go provides weekend meals for K-12 students in Spokane. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted that addressing food insecurity fosters dignity and stability, crucial for community health and student retention. With 1 in 5 children in the region facing hunger, this initiative is vital for their academic success. Donations of non-perishable food and financial contributions can be made at City Hall or through a QR code linked to Bite2Go.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community participation, inviting residents to drop off donations while visiting City Hall. The food drive reflects a collective commitment to ensuring that no child in Spokane goes hungry. Additional details about the programs are available on the 2nd Harvest website.
