Flags Lowered for Eastern State Hospital Security Guard Colleen Bass
In a show of solidarity, Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Eastern State Hospital Security Guard Colleen Bass, who was killed in the line of duty on September 27. This decision complements Governor Bob Ferguson’s directive for state and U. S. flags at all state agency facilities to also be lowered. Mayor Brown expressed the community's grief, stating, “Our community is heartbroken by Colleen's loss,” and offered condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
Flags will remain at half-staff until the close of business, serving as a poignant reminder of Bass's sacrifice. The incident underscores the inherent dangers faced by security personnel in their roles. The City of Spokane emphasizes the importance of honoring those who serve to protect the community. This act of remembrance reflects the city’s commitment to acknowledging the sacrifices made by first responders. In doing so, it fosters a sense of unity and support within the community.
