Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council will hold a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15, supporting the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go supplies weekend meals to K-12 students in Spokane. Council Member Paul Dillon remarked on the importance of this initiative in combating food insecurity, stating it promotes dignity and community well-being. With 1 in 5 children in the region struggling with hunger, this effort aims to enhance student retention and community health. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged residents to participate by donating non-perishable items while visiting City Hall.
Donations can be made at designated drop boxes or through a secure QR code for monetary contributions. The city seeks to ensure no child in Spokane faces hunger. For more information, residents can visit the 2nd Harvest website.
