Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane City Council and city employees are launching a community food drive and fundraiser from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch focuses on immediate food distribution through small pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious meals to K-12 students on weekends. Council Member Paul Dillon highlighted the initiative's significance in addressing food insecurity, stating, “It’s about dignity and stability. ” In Spokane, one in five children faces hunger, impacting their ability to focus in school. Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or financial contributions, which can be made securely via a QR code at City Hall.

Designated drop boxes will be available on multiple floors of the building for food donations. This initiative not only seeks to alleviate hunger but also aims to enhance student retention and long-term community health. The programs rely on community support to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry.
