Spokane Police Department and Gonzaga University co-host weeklong Dialogue Policing training
Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department conducted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training to enhance law enforcement communication skills. This comprehensive, 40-hour course, developed by the Columbus Police Department, focuses on fostering collaboration between police and community members. Participants learned de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology, and engaged in Q&A sessions with local activists and media representatives. Training scenarios were included to ensure officers effectively apply the skills learned. Multiple local agencies attended, highlighting a community-wide commitment to improving police-community relations.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to adopt more communication-focused policing strategies. The course not only enhances officers' capabilities but also aims to build trust within the community. Such training is crucial for maintaining public safety and ensuring positive interactions during large events.
