Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

Spokane, WALocal News

The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15 to support the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for local pantries, while Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend supplies to K-12 students in Spokane. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized that tackling food insecurity fosters dignity and stability for families. According to Bite2Go, one in five children in the region faces hunger, hindering their educational focus. Donations can be dropped off at City Hall or made online through a secure QR code linked to 2nd Harvest.

Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged participation, noting that even utility bill payments at City Hall can be combined with donations. This initiative addresses a critical community need, promoting student retention and overall health. The drive aims to ensure no child in Spokane goes hungry, enhancing community welfare.
