Gonzaga University and the Spokane Police Department hosted a weeklong Dialogue Policing training event to enhance communication skills among law enforcement personnel. Developed by the Columbus Police Department, this evidence-based program encompasses 40 hours of instruction aimed at improving interactions with community members during large gatherings. Officers were introduced to the Dialogue Policing model and participated in a Q&A session featuring local activists and media representatives. The training included a focus on de-escalation techniques and crowd psychology informed by scientific principles. Officers engaged in practical training scenarios to solidify their understanding and skills before completing certification requirements.
