Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive
The Spokane City Council will host a community food drive from October 15 to December 15, aimed at supporting the Zilch and Bite2Go programs. Zilch collects food for immediate distribution through local pantries, while Bite2Go ensures that Spokane public school students in grades K-12 receive nutritious meals on weekends. According to Bite2Go, one in five children in the area faces food insecurity, which affects their learning capabilities. Council Member Paul Dillon emphasized the initiative's importance in promoting dignity and stability for families. Council Member Michael Cathcart encouraged community participation by donating food during City Council meetings or while paying utility bills at City Hall.
Non-perishable food and monetary donations can be made at designated drop boxes throughout City Hall. Donors can also use a secure QR code to contribute financially to the Bite2Go program. This effort seeks to ensure that no child in Spokane goes hungry, thereby enhancing community health and student retention.
